Station Improvements & Upgrades: Station Design and Project Survey

WBMARC_concept_designOn May 22, 2013, approximately 95 West Baltimore community stakeholders participated in a electronic to provide valuable insight into the type of station they would like to see in the future. The following is a snapshot what people said was important to them regarding the station and overall project:

  • 74% people participating in the survey have lived in West Baltimore for more than 10 years
  • 47% preferred a modern design over a traditional design style, but 13% were undecided
  • 61% would prefer to see a plaza design with less pavement and more greenspace
  • Lighting installations and historic panels were close choices for an art preference with 31% and 35% respectively
  • 66% of the participants would prefer to see a combination of both stand alone public art work and artistic elements incorporated into the overall station improvements
  • 38% would like to see the Archie Veale mural imagery used to create new art with 34% wanting to see completely new imagery used to create new public art
  • 86% strongly agree with a station design that is easily maintained and sustainable
  • 92% strongly agree with a station design that promotes security and safety
  • 78% strongly agree with a station design that uses renewable and energy-efficient solutions
  • 90% strongly agree that the station should attract reinvestment to the area
  • 92% strongly agree that the project should include workforce training and local hiring efforts
  • 81% strongly support a platform design that includes seating for passengers
  • 73% strongly support a station that includes bike storage facilities
  • 99% strongly support a platform design that includes accessible trash cans
  • 93% strongly support a platform design that provides canopy shelters
